Mission: Ka Hakaka Maikaʻi - The Good Fight
Location: C-I-C Deck 2
Timeline: 14.5 Hours to Canterra

[C-I-C Combat Information Center]

"Well, we'll see how much of this plan survives first contact," West noted, remarking on the oft-used saying that no plan ever survives first contact.

Moments later, Akio joined the group along with a few officers from the bridge.

"CAPTAIN ON DECK!" Someone shouted from the door.

"Please, as you were," Akio allowed as he strode up to the Major and XO. "This is your show, Major. We are just here to support the drop."

"Indeed," Juan affirmed from nearby.

Waiting in the corner a she tried to avoid Akio eye contact. It has been awkward the few days and she was still not sure how to respond to all this. She held her arms over each other before her and leans against the wall. Deeli smirks waiting for the Major to start.

"Well, actually, this is Colonel McGruder's show," West smirked as a holographic image appeared at the head of the table.

"Hey Terry, how have you been?" McGruder asked, recognizing the Major.

"Just fine, Colonel," West smiled. The two had followed each other throughout parts of their careers. They first met when West was a Platoon Leader in McGruder's Battalion.

Akio watched the interaction and understood the common bond. As he looked up, he saw Kosu and some apprehension on her face. He looked back to the Colonel, trying to focus on the task at hand.

The table brought up the map of Canterra.

"Sir, we are proposing insertion as follows: 4th MSOT in the mountains, via a north-pole air route," West drew a line from north of Onidon to the the mountains just north of city. "And 3d MSOT in the jungles with atmospheric insertion over the sea to the west of the city. These teams will provide initial reconnaissance of the capital to prepare for future planning."

"What sort of air presence are you looking at for escorts?" the Colonel asked.

"None, sir. We are concerned any additional fighter presence would just alert the enemy. We are looking to conduct these insertions under cover of the space battle. In the event our ships withdraw, we'll at least have a ground team," West explained.

McGruder studied the map and a couple minutes passed by. "Well, our orders were to establish a ground presence and I thought the plan the fleet cooked up was a bit bullshit, excuse my French," Hayes glanced at Akio who was more preoccupied with thinking how 'bullshit' was French. "This seems like a decent plan for me," McGruder finished.

"All courtesy of some fine officers," West beamed, sharing the credit with the assembled company grade officers.

"We just need to make sure the space plan doesn't kill us before we can land," McGruder looked at Akio.

Even though it was a holograph, Akio still felt the piercing marine eyes.

"For the space battle," Akio started, "the plan is to form two columns, tangentially to Canterra. We share your sentiment, so the Adelaide will be in the center of the outer column while Hawaii takes the center of the closer column. The Adriatic will move ahead of the group to obtain detailed scans. Once we obtain those scans, we will know the best place to put our columns. Compass Island will lead our fighter units for enemy capital ship bombing runs. Are there any questions?" Akio looked around the table and awaited anything from the group.

"Excuse me sir," Juan began, "but, what do we know about the makeup and disposition of enemy forces in space right now?"

"The latest EM signatures we have are depicted in this graphic," Akio clicked some buttons.

"We are not yet in visual range to capture all the vessel types, so these are the assessed class types," Akio explained, feeling the grimness of the revelation. 6 vs. 9 are never good odds.

Cassidy leaned in, squinting at the display. "It's difficult to make any recommendations until we see the enemy disposition for sure," he conceded. "But so outnumbered, the Compass Island and her speed might be of some use harrying them if they try to encircle or flank us. Maybe the fighters too. Save slugging matches against their capital ships for our heavy hitters." He didn't sound enormously confident - not necessarily of his own judgement, but highly mindful of how the situation was too fluid to make definitive judgements.

"Focusing fire will be important, agreed," Akio remarked. "Yet the odds are also why formation needs to be strictly adhered to. The thinking is that we can save our shields our re-route power as needed from areas our Battle Group is covering to exposed shields," Akio looked at the new OPS Ensign to ascertain understanding.

Nila nods, "Not only that but should the need call for it we could extend the shields to assist should one ship lose power or parts of the shields become exposed."

"Perhaps, which is why battle group coordination will likely be our real key to victory," Juan mused. "Our bridge and CIC staff will need to be in top form in order to successfully manage this battle."

Still leaning against the wall as she heard the people talk, but at the same time not. She did not really care for this kind of thing and it was not her sport. Why was she actually still a Chief Engineer? Deeli blinks a bit and looked quickly to Akio and back to the wall. Because of what happened between them? Or something else.

"It sounds like you have a robust plan for... what are we calling this operation?" McGruder asked.

"Black Arrow," Akio replied and paused for any other questions. Hearing none, he rose, signaling the end of the meeting and everyone stood at attention as the Captain departed.

Once the Battle group attack planning was concluded Bolingbroke said. "There will be a briefing for the reconnaissance mission in two hours, in the Marine Command Center, Deck Twenty Two."

"Understood, Captain," Jinn replied. "I'll be there."

"As you say," confirmed Hargreaves.

"Understood," Gregor affirmed.

“Understood,” Cortez acknowledged with a nod

"Mister Stevens. " Bolingbroke continued "We will not need a Security contingent for this first mission and l'm sure your team's will be busy in the upcoming engagement.

"But, we can find a place for two of your staff, one with each team, to familiarize them with the terrain, environment and joint operations with Marines. This should stand them in good stead when we commence combat operations on the surface. Who can you spare?"

Harry replied, "Well, I can spare Ensign Barnard who needs to get some away mission time for his evaluation, and the same for Chief Kelly," as he looked back at Bolingbroke, if you wouldn't mind giving me an Evaluation report on both Officers?" He asked Bolingbroke.

"Thank you Mister Stevens" Bolingbroke nodded "I'll pass the request on to the Team leaders, who will be in supervising your officers"

"And Lieutenant Cassidy please have your assigned pilot at the briefing also" Bolingbroke asked the Flight Officer.

"I'll notify Ensign Griffith-Bailey," said Cassidy with a nod.

"Finally, we will need to draw supplies for the teams, can you or the Quartermaster attend?" Bolingbroke asked Nila.

"I will come to the meeting, that way I can call ahead to the Quartermaster once we have a list of all you need so we can get it ready sooner." Nila answered the Marine Captain.
